The Grandeur Of Atlantis

Although mythical, the empire of Atlantis has been the focus of many books and movies today. Remaining unanswered are queries about what it was and where it is. Definitely this is true  It was in 360 BC when the Greek philosopher by the name of Plato mentioned Atlantis I two of his dialogues namely Timaeus and Critias, and ever since professional researchers and amateur sleuths have been hooked. One popular Internet bookstore offers 438 titles on the subject. For the Disney company, Atlantis The Lost Empire was a successful full length movie. When it comes to Atlantis and the scholars who believed in it, Plato could not have possibly created such a sacred island that beheld the light of the sun and brought about an infinite abundance. Why can’t we be sure if Plato was making Atlantis up or if he was quoting historians about a real place? When it comes to Atlantis, Plato died some years later without ever telling people how real it is.

When it comes to the historian Solon where Plato quoted Atlantis from, he existed. Skeptics think it’s possible Solon made the whole thing up, and Plato believed in a fable. Plato was indeed an intellectual person but he lacked the capacity for detail and so when it comes to Atlantis being a series of rings, the royal palace and cities flowing through dug out canals, intricate statues and similar bath houses, these could not been things that he could easily think up.

It is puzzling to conceptualize how long of a period of time Atlantis could have probably existed for Plato said that it was destroyed in 9000 BC but the kind of advancement it has can easily create nuclear bombs not to mention flying machines that take lifetimes to develop. Other than this, there is the question of where Atlantis is. During 1470 BC, a volcano devastated Thira where it was said to have existed. Atlantis could also have been located around the Azores in the Atlantic off the coast of Spain. Looking for Atlantis has taken over the discoveries of underwater ruins. As they sailed around the world, the European explorers had Atlantis laden maps in hand for the trips.

Traveling with their flying machines, these were fabricated by using the elephant skins that they had. Just off of the coast of modern day Bimini was another alternative Atlantis location. It was possible for some to survive even when the place was destroyed. The rest of the world were able to know about what these survivors lived through when they ended up in Egypt. For the records of Atlantis, a secret chamber in the Great Sphinx contains them.

It was only in 4000 BC when Antarctica had ice. Prior to that, either an underground explosion happened or there was a seismic upheaval. A number of these were strong enough to be destructive to a civilization. Wanting some proof about Atlantis, an author resorted to research and he found out that it was really an island located in the Atlantic Ocean. You could say that its loss is due to a nuclear explosion. In the past nuclear weapons were also available just like today. Nuclear explosions during the civil war in Atlantis eliminated them from the history books.

What You Need To Know About The White Continent

The mesmerizing beauty of Antarctica brimming with hidden brutality is one of a kind. Not a single drop of blood ever bloodied this continent. But even as you combine Europe and America, this continent still is larger and this also where more men have perished violently than naturally, with its intensely cold climate positioning it to be an almost germ free environment. Today it is a continent of contrasts where men of antagonistic political faiths work together in harmonious concert, warm and comfortable three inches away from 100 below zero temperatures that would freeze their blood in seconds. Visit this site for further information on Antarctic Cruising Tours.

Better than diets, Antarctica’s extreme cold takes away calories from people with the heartiest appetites even as they devour more than five meals each day, preventing happy eaters from gaining weight. There is also an exclusive affliction here known as the big eye, residents can barely sleep due to the sunshine beaming at 3 in the morning, causing a mass insomnia during the summer season’s unceasing daylight.

Antarctica has the strictest environmental laws on earth. The statutes make the scientific field parties burn their human excrement and urinate only into sealed barrels as these are extremely stringent. If centuries ago, whales and seals can easily be killed, today, special licenses are required. The Americans alone, through the National Science Foundation, spend about $45 million a year sponsoring such scientific studies as the behavioral and ecological adaptation of pygoscelid penguins, the origin of ice crystals in polar precipitations and the evolution of mesozoic and cenozoic depositional basins of the northern Antarctic Peninsula and the South Orkney Islands.

The hustle and bustle during the summer season that runs from the month of November and ending around the middle of February attracts many women who all head to various research facilities and a good example would be the one in Vostok, near the geomagnetic pole which sees a steady influx of Russian females. But this continent has never seen any female navy personnel spending the winter on the continent, according to the Navy brass, no lady might ever do this. But more than ever, growing pressure is being felt by the Pentagon as they’re tasked to bring in females for the wintering-over parties, in the McMurdo hub and even the South Pole hub which is 728 miles farther below. This site teaches you about antarctic tours.

A senior naval officer states that they do not disagree with the idea but there is one thing that has to be considered. How are the wives of the men down here going to react knowing their husbands are spending the longest night in the world with other women? Solve that one and we’ll green light the ladies for wintering over assignments.

Differentiating the Arctic from the Antarctic is by looking at its wildlife and the former boasts of an array of mammals with fur like hares and polar bears, along with caribou herds and a teeming bird life, whereas the latter, the Antarctic has only fur bearing seals on its coast line and these are hardly ever permanent residents. Contrary to nature are the biggest bird population, the penguins, without any flyable wings or the ability to sing, for some of their kinds can lay their eggs and hatch their young in the dead of winter during the lowest temperatures that this land has ever known.

Off the shores, the richest marine life on Earth thrives. The waters of Antarctica was home to many seals and whales and this was what drew the hunters in. The experience is not what draw them in. They came to build their New England wealth, specifically the oil from whales and the skin of the seals. Not too many know that among them was a sealer captain named Nathaniel Brown Palmer who is given credit for locating the Antarctic Peninsula by having this land, in 1920, named after him.

Thriving right in these very waters are an approximate of 1 and a half billion metric tons of krill, four inch long crustaceans that, according to experts, are this world’s largest protein source. Under the four seas along with others through the shelf of the continent, the experts on fisheries estimate trawlers can harvest much more protein annually than what is now being reaped by the fishermen from all the waters in the world.

It is the greed and butchery of seal and whale hunters that should be held responsible for the immense supply of krill today. Today we are threatened by the reality of extinction among krill-eating seals and baleen whales thanks to merciless slaughter of such animals, which has also paved the way for krill populace to grow by the billions.

Souvenirs In The Form Of Mud And Rocks

For someone who is not knowledgeable about such things, the contents of the bags and plastic vials are nothing important. With such specimens originating from the Larsen Ice Shelf in Antarctica the scientists will truly be kept busy for long. There are a lot of things to learn from mud as a college senior said. This college senior was one of a handful of students and faculty from one college and one university who recently spent a month in Antarctica on an expedition funded by the National Science Foundation. In particular, these schools already went on a couple of research cruises before. To get a closer look on antarctica travel visit this site.

It was in early February when the group left on a research vessel from Punta Arenas Chile. Their destination, the Larsen Ice Shelf on the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula was uncharted territory. There has not been a single explorer there before them. As they used sonar for measuring the ocean’s depth, they moved the boat slowly. From the deck students and other researchers collected water and sediment samples and gathered video footage. About a decade is necessary in analyzing these samples.

Taking note of the modern global warming situation, trace evidences of mud will be analyzed from the amount of water it holds to its composition. There are students who mentioned how such a trip is a rare event. You deal with untouched reality, a student says, in a trip like this. Planning to study about global warming in graduate school, this student is a native of Scotland. Another student confirms that she wouldn’t mind being on a ship for the rest of her life, who will continue her studies next year at one university’s school of Oceanography.

Taking note of how intense the Southern Hemisphere weather conditions are, the group coped well. Somewhat similar was Upstate New York. Sunrise as early as 430 am setting around 930 pm is more intense than having cold days. Some pain may be encountered from the brightness when you look out the window. Civilization may be lacking but that did not prevent science 24 seven. Every student chose a shift that was midnight to noon or noon to midnight. The usual off day routines for students were watching movies in the group lounge or sleeping on the bunk beds. You will gain a deeper understanding about antarctica holiday by checking out that resource.

Still there were a series of rules to follow. Should something serious occur, a senior must be told. There was a senior student who needed to visit an emperor penguin after checking out a newly found surface volcano. But this Dryden native says that this was the interesting bit. Everyone favors such encounters. She particularly loved it when they were brought to Vega Island. Incredible was the experience of being able to stand where only 10 people have ever stood before.

Altogether, the students missed about five weeks of classes. The hectic schedules they were given plus the environmental safety conditions in their vessel prevented them from getting all of their schoolwork done. There is not much consolation in a ship that keeps moving. There was not much communication allowed for the people back home. Still a closeness was established with the students and faculty due to the absence of distractions and close quarters. For one student any escape effort was futile. Everything from the desolated area to the extreme environment will really make people close.

When they returned to the United States, they carried the samples in coolers with each of the mud and rock specimens having documents for the customs officials. 323 digital pictures and five film rolls were also brought by one student. Last year there was a student who joined in and went on again this time and she simply wanted to embrace the surroundings. You can’t capture every moment she said. There is a need to appreciate what your surroundings are offering.

A One Day Trip To Antarctica: No Longer Impossible

One of fun things for tourists taking a joyride on a jumbo jet over the South Magnetic Pole is  watching a compass needle wobbling and wavering irregularly. Many meters beneath the comfortable passengers, the ice sheet has been etched into wave-like patterns by a relentlessly blowing polar wind as it heads out to sea. Although the tourists hover high above, the trails of snow, making their way to the ocean, resemble slowly shifting, feathery steam, meandering across the glacier’s wave shaped sculptures. Go to this site for further information on Antarctic Cruising Tours.

When a team of explorers finally reached the South Magnetic Pole in 1909 for the first time, they had spent 134 days slogging through deadly ice-covered passages.  They had to travel 2,030 kilometers. Passengers on this flight reached the Magnetic South Pole four hours after having left,.  They were able to enjoy a round trip flight that spent many hours over Antarctica.

Compass needles jump and the compasses themselves spin when they pass over the South Magnetic Pole because it is at this spot that many lines of magnetic force converge in the Southern Hemisphere. This jet has both a gyroscope and satellite guidance system, so staying on the correct flight path is easy. The geographic South Pole, not the same thing, is located over 1,500 miles away on the continent itself; it was also first reached by explorers in the early 1900s. Tourists who take this flight are repeating the feat of a well-known American aviator who was the first to fly over both North and South Poles back in the 1920s, bragging about being a man who had fulfilled his destiny while sitting down.

Outside, the Antarctic winds quickly begin to whip past the plane windows. Some passengers are so warm within the cabin that they are wearing t-shirts and shorts.  They rest and sip chardonnay. Expect a jubilant atmosphere inside the plane’s cabin from the minute you take off, through to the entire time that you and your fellow explorers view the Antarctic to when you get back and touchdown safely. Each of the tourists, which range in age from children to seniors, stroll the aisles of the plane, hoping to find the perfect viewing spot for observing icebergs from above. This site teaches you about antarctic tours.

Nearing the Antarctic coast, more icebergs appear and they become all jumbled together. The tourists take turns pointing out amazing glacial formations, and taking video, snapping pictures, or silently marvel at the astounding beauty of glaciers sinking majestically into the ocean. Prepare to be amazed at the Trans Antarctic Mountains, whose large mountain snow caps seem to jut into the air for miles and miles.

These tourist flights have revived the aerial tourism for Antarctic that had flourished years ago when there were regular flights of jumbo aircraft by two major airlines across this dark and cold continent. Not only do you see icebergs, coasts, glaciers, and mountains on your flight, but the pilot points out a former French research base which was abandoned when a tidal wave destroyed it. This base isn’t a long way from the South Magnetic Pole.  It was reached first by geologists.

Everything Dealing With Water Polo

Swimming is noted in numerous with the classics as relating to heroism and religion. Nicolas Wynman’s Dialogue Concerning the Art of Swimming (1538) could be the 1st recorded written document on swimming methods. It proves excellence in strength and endurance. Matthew Webb from England was the very first man to cross the English Channel in 1875, and later Gertrude Ederle in the Unites States of America became the first woman to cross in 1926.

In ancient times snorkels were crafted from hollow reeds found in lakes and marshes. Pliny the Elder, a first century A.D. Roman makes reference towards snorkel, so the activity holds rank as one in the oldest recorded h2o sports. Loenardo da Vinci developed a additional modern snorkel when the Venetian senate summonsed him to do so. Divers attached this hollow tube to leather helmets
The present-day diver’s snorkel is typically a J-shaped tube that is open in the leading and has a mouthpiece in the other end, typically no a lot more than 2 ft (61 cm) long.

American West-coasters go wild riding the waves on a wooden plank identified as being a surfboard. Originally, surfing developed in Hawaii within the nineteenth century. It became common in California inside 1920s, and became a hit youth sport in the 1960s.

For instant enjoyable and competition, think about receiving dive rings.  Dive rings are essentially weighted, brightly colored rings that when thrown, head directly on the bottom of your pool.  Send your kids for the bottom with the swimming pool and see who gets back to prime first!  This is often a wonderful approach to let them actually show off their diving abilities and to obtain them pumped about showing off what they can do.  By working with these great toys, you’ll be capable to see them increase both in terms of lung capacity and endurance.

House Moving Juegos Mario Home Selling | Insurance, Surfing And Excursions – Trends In Cruise Travel

house moving Cruises are no longer just about grand dinners and white-glove service. There are a number of exciting activities being added to the cutting edge cruise liners. Imagine being able to take a surfboard to a breaker while still on board the boat! This new feature, called Flowrider – a machine that generates artificial waves – has been installed in some of the latest cruise ships. So you may want to pack your surfboard as well as your sun cream and travel insurance for the cruise.

juegos mario New Activities

The liner companies have embarked upon a competition of one-upmanship with the modernization of their ships. The traditional romantic cruise has a lot more to it now than shuffleboard and dinner at the captain’s table. You can now enjoy mini golf and shopping arcades on cruise liners, and the experience is not exclusively for couples.

Children are increasingly joining family cruise holidays, making use of the video games, basket ball courts and nightclubs for young people that the liner companies are installing on their boats. With your children running wild on kids’ club scavenger hunts, it would be prudent to include them in your cruise travel insurance. Some policies include children for free as part of your cruise insurance. There are even Disney liners to tempt the kids onto the ocean, and some industry insiders have joked that a roller coaster will be the next fun thing to try on the rolling sea.

home selling As well as safe and sedate entertainment like wine cellars and trivia quizzes, you can now try out rock-climbing walls, ice skating rinks, and trampolines on a cruise ship. Such activities are fun because of their innate element of risk, and because of this you should check your cruise insurance will cover extra sports. Even though liners will likely have a doctor or some kind of medical provision on board, if an injury or illness requires hospitalization, it becomes a difficult and expensive business. Without cruise travel insurance you could end up paying for a helicopter airlift to shore.

Smaller Cruise Ship

Smaller Cruise ships give you the opportunity to visit new, and less crowded ports. They take you places big ships cannot reach without hitting the ocean floor. Small ships are capable of getting you right up to the shore in many cases, and seems your closer to the water level, rather than 10 stories above as you would be on a large cruise ship you would actually be able to see the ocean animals such as whales, seals, and the many others of sea life.

Small cruise ships will generally have expert naturalists on board to give information and commentary on what you would be seeing in the ocean. These type of ships are more about exploring, learning, and fun on that front that you won’t forget.

Liner companies are also changing their approach to the on-shore excursions. As well as visits to the local sightseeing hot spots, they are arranging experiences such as sports car racing and excursions to nearby golf courses. If this appeals to you, you should check that your cruise insurance will cover scenarios like a scratched Ferrari and lost golf clubs.

Despite innovations, it seems cruise travel can’t escape old questions about safety, as the recent pirate problems off the coast of Africa have demonstrated. More mundane problems like illness are still prevalent on cruises. In 2006, the U.S. investigated 34 reports of norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships. Such alarming data serves as a reminder that the security and assurance that comes with cruise travel insurance is essential for enjoying your time at sea You can be published without charge. You Must Learn The History Before Visiting Antarctica

An American?s exploration of Antarctica called attention to its remote and unknown nature. The largest ice accumulation by far in the world today covers the Antarctica continent which includes a huge land mass of over 5 million square miles, which is watched over by some of the leading countries of the world. Scientists argue about just how thick the ice sheet is.  Some have posited a figure of 2000 feet; others say this is too thin. With the exception of certain mountain peaks of the highest elevation and a few sections of volcanic rock at the coast, the ice covers the entire continent. Read this site if you want antarctica tours information.

Just like a glacier, the ice passes in valleys between the high mountains as it heads to the sea. If you are seeking the South Pole, you?ll need to visit the central plateau.  This impressive land feature stretches some eight to ten thousand feet above sea level.

The continent is split into four regions, named for the oceans or land masses situated to the north. Tourists and explorers know them as the African,, Pacific and American quadrants. No one has explored the coastlines of the Pacific and African quadrants. A very small area of the American quadrant coastline has been really investigated; the quadrant is far better known.  It contains the Ross Sea sector.

Wilkes Land, Adelle Land, King George V Land, Oates Land, and South Victoria Land, which have boundaries on the west by Queen Mary Land and the east by the Ross Sea encompasses the quadrant. The western edge of the Ross Sea is a mountainous area, with the mountains emanating from an expansive sheet of shelf ice of approximately 160,000 square miles known as the Ross Barrier. As a person looking for antarctica vacations you should visit that site.

Near a natural harbor called the Bay of Whales, also on the barrier, the explorer set up base camp. Mount Terror and Mount Erebus are two volcanoes which cover most of the Ross Island at the western end of the barrier. The barrier is over 400 miles long and crosses the Ross Sea to King Edward VII land. The width measured from the sea to the mountains skirting the polar route is 400 miles.

Shelf ice can only be found in Antarctica, and the barrier is the largest available example. Glaciers coming from the mountains met the Ross Sea and this created the barrier. Ice still travels through glacier channels, with can be between five and fifteen miles wide, to reach the Ross Sea.  Some ice travels for over one hundred miles. Scientist argue about the resting spot of the Barrier.  They question if it is floating or on the sea floor.

Great offshoots of rock are found in King Edward VII Land, which is in the Pacific quadrant.  It is edged by the Ross Sea on its westward edge. The explorer first witnessed the Scott Nunataks and Alexandra Mountains when flying for the first time from the Bay of Whales. This flight also allowed him to map out fourteen new mountain tops and an island.  He saw land no one else had ever spotted. Thanks to this explorer and his later flights, map makers may be able to finally have a complete version of the Pacific quadrant?s coastline.

Many explorers have visited the American quadrant’s Coats Land, Charcot Land and Graham Land, in addition to the Weddell sea area. After a flight, an explorer discovered Graham Land isn?t actually part of the continent.  It is a separate island. Continental division is the major geographical issue facing Antarctica today. Weddell Sea and Ross Sea are virtually opposite each other, the former being in the American quadrant and the latter in the quadrant.

The Antarctic Continent offers so many chances for scientific research. Geographers are interested in gaining specific facts able to provide a through and precise mapping of the coastlines, and a thorough view of the mountains and plateau containing the South Pole.

There is a need for further examination of the glaciology of the Antarctic continent, the study of outcroppings of rock, and glacial moraines which are encased in the ice covered land which geologist are currently studying.

You And Antarctica: Your Perspectives

On her last trip, this ninety-one year old was Antarctica.  She?s been all around the world, now. She was able to see Antarctica with her very own eyes.  She didn?t have to see it on tv or in a magazine. This was the third time she’d visited the region, but the first time she’d actually seen Antarctica. She flew over Antarctica, though she never did land. Read this site if you want affordable antarctica tours information.

Ice covered vistas, cold mountain peaks, crusty glaciers and sparkling fjords gave the tourist a beautiful view of Antarctica during her four hour flight. For a better view, the pilot allowed the plane to descend to just about 300 feet above the ground. Fog covered one of the mountain ranges they passed. A brightly shining sun and clear sky gave them perfect viewing weather. They traveled in mid march, which marks the end of Antarctica?s summer.  The air temperatures were sub-zero. A scientist who was conducting Antarctic research served as tour guide and lecturer on the flight.

A view of the penguins was one of this lady?s goals. Though she didn?t see any on the flight, her daughter was able to see a colony of penguins in the distance. They took a ship which allowed them to visit the Falkland islands, just off the Argentine coast. Hundreds of Magellan penguins greeted her as she reached the East Island of the Falklands.  This took another boat ride. This is the tallest of all the penguin species.

After flying from the United States for sixteen hours, they cruised from a South American city. A dip in the pool was the crew?s invitation after visiting many South American ports of call. Ignoring the air temperatures of 35 degrees, the ninety-one year old took to the water.  She got a certificate for having done so. This site teaches you about antarctic tours.

They then docked in Chile, drove to Santiago, and flew to Rio. The cruise, which was three weeks long, had ideal weather. All passengers saw the Southern Cross, a notoriously difficult to find constellation, in the clear night sky.

When she’d visited South America before, the tourist had cruised the major river and seen one other major city. Because she was able to see the devastation visited upon the rain forest around that river in the few years between her visits, she is deeply concerned about the loss of bird habitat. She has also visited Africa and gone on a Safari. Because she?s also been to, she needed only to visit Antarctica. She completed that collection with her recent trip to Antarctica.
